The Laydybug’s Area Guide:

  • Cape Charles Coffee House

A can’t miss breakfast spot featuring Belgian waffles and premium, specialty coffees. Founded in 2005 with the belief that a first-rate meal should be complemented by a venue that's just as elegant. The coffee house is housed in the beautifully renovated historic Jones' Department Store. It was built in 1920 with soaring tin ceilings, rich paneled walls, and art deco chandeliers.

  • Sting-Ray's

Located within an Exxon gas station, Sting Ray’s looks like a large barn. Serving specialty dishes such as sweet potato biscuits stuffed with ham and all manner of traditional breakfast plates.

The sweet potato biscuits are a house specialty, made from a recipe that is decades-old. Their gentle sweetness provides marvelous balance for the ham. Being Virginia ham, it isn’t all that brackish. But pairing it with the sweet potato biscuit is culinary genius.
